How to Apply for Financial Aid

Step 1:

Students must complete and mail the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to receive federal and state grants. A mailing envelope is attached to the application. Be sure to list our Title IV School Code (008659) on your application so that we will receive your processed information electronically. This form is available at any financial aid office, from most high school guidance counselors, and at many public libraries.

You may submit your FAFSA form electronically by visiting the FAFSA on the WEB site at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This is the fastest way to receive financial aid. Also, your information is edited before you submit it, so, if you made any errors or left out any information, the software will bring this to your attention before you submit your application. This reduces the chance that your data will be rejected for some reason and makes it less likely that you will have to correct your information later.

You and your parents should request a pin number form the Department of Education at www.pin.ed.gov This will serve as your electronic signature.

Step 2:

Apply for admission to LFCC.

Step 3:

Students must ensure that they are enrolled in an eligible curriculum to receive financial aid. Eligible academic curriculums are degree and certificate programs that have been approved by the Department of Education. Career Studies Certificates are not eligible degree programs.

Step 4:

Upon receipt of your SAR the Financial Aid Office will begin analyzing the information and will inform you of your financial aid eligibility

Step 5:

If your Student Aid Report is selected for a process called verification, additional documents will be requested. Selected applicants will need to complete Verification Worksheets and provide signed copies of their and their parents’ (if applicable) federal tax returns and W2’s. It is important that students respond to this request in a timely manner. Financial aid awards will only be made after the verification process is completed

Step 6:

Awards will be based on the student’s expected family contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA
