Dr. Henry J. Coffman is an Assistant Professor in Information Technology
Education:
- Doctor of Arts Degree, George Mason University with a concentration in Community College Education
- Masters degree, The American University in Technology of Management with a concentration in Operations Research and Management Information Systems
- Bachelor of Science degree, University of Virginia
- Graduate certificate, George Mason University in Information Systems Security
Background & Experience:
Prior to teaching full time at Lord Fairfax Community College, Dr. Coffman worked for the Federal Government for 31 years in positions at Department of Navy, Defense Mapping Agency, and Interpol. Dr. Coffman worked in numerous types of Information Technology (IT) positions including computer programming, hardware and software troubleshooting, network administration, network design and construction, IT systems design, and IT management.
LFCC Teaching
Dr. Coffman has taught various Information Technology courses as an adjunct professor (11 years) and as a full-time professor since August 2004. He presently teaches courses in:
- Operating Systems (ITN 106)
- PC Hardware (ITN 107)
- Network Administration (ITN 200)
- Network Infrastructure (ITN 201)
- Network Security Basics (ITN 260)
- Subject matter security courses (ITN 261/262/263)
- Systems Analysis and Design (ITP 251)
- Geographical Information Systems (GIS 200/201)
Certifications & Professional Affiliations:
Dr. Coffman is certified as a CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) and has held the Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) credential. He is affiliated with the International Security Consortium (ISC)2 and a member of the Doctor of Arts in Community College Education Student Advisory Committee at George Mason University.
Personal Interests:
Dr. Coffman is involved in several computer related activities as a hobby. In addition, he collects toy Hess trucks and certain sets of coins. He also enjoys the outdoors and hiking.
