Margaret bartow

Margaret Bartow serves Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) as the vice president of learning. Bartow joined LFCC as the dean of learning for humanities, social sciences and math in August 2005. From May until August 2006, Bartow served as the interim vice president of learning. After a national search, she was named the vice president of learning in late August 2006.

Bartow’s responsibilities include:

• Cultivating and expanding the institution’s visibility and outreach efforts to K-12 and four-year institutions, including developing articulation agreements with four-year universities
• Facilitating changes in all curricula to meet current workplace practices and the requirements of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), four-year institutions and accreditation standards by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)
• Enhancing faculty and staff professional development

Before coming to LFCC, she served as associate dean of academic affairs at Corning Community College in Corning, N.Y. In this role, Bartow also managed a dual enrollment program that involved 40 area high schools. Additionally, she brings to the job 13 years of teaching experience in teacher education, early childhood education and human development at the community college level; six years as a department chair; several years in the university setting; service in state-level higher education agencies; and community college research and planning experience.

Bartow holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from Simmons College, a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a doctorate in higher and adult education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
