Linnie S. Carter is the vice president of college advancement at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) and executive director of the Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation Inc. In these roles, she directs, manages and coordinates College fund raising, public relations, alumni affairs, community relations, legislative affairs, marketing, special events, publications, grants, scholarships, Web site and Foundation Board activities.
Prior to coming to LFCC, Carter served as the director of institutional advancement at John Tyler Community College and executive director of the John Tyler Community College Foundation Inc.
In addition, Carter served as the public relations manager at the Richmond Metropolitan Authority for two years and as the Public Relations Specialist for the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Libraries for six years.
Carter earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mass communications from VCU. In 2000, she earned the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) designation from the Universal Accreditation Board. Currently, she is a doctoral student in Old Dominion University’s Community College Leadership Program.
In 2005, Carter was named the African American Alumni Council Alumnus of the Year at VCU. Also, she is a member of the Leadership Metro Richmond Class of 2002 and was honored as one of Inside Business’ Top Forty Under 40 in 2000. In addition, in 2000, she was awarded the Milton L. Randolph Sr. Award by Friends Association for Children and presented with an Outstanding Service Award by the Richmond Association of Black Journalists in 1999.
Carter has received numerous awards for her work in public relations. In addition, Carter is a member of several civic and professional associations, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, College Communicators Association, Council for Resource Development, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, Public Relations Society of America, VCU African American Alumni Council, VCU Alumni Association and Virginia Community Colleges Association.
