Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation Scholarships with Special Criteria and Deadlines

To better serve our students, generous donors have contributed funds to the LFCC Educational Foundation to establish scholarships with special criteria and deadlines.

These scholarships are unique, because a variety of LFCC students are eligible for them. Also, the scholarships are not bound by the College’s annual spring scholarship program deadline. Except where indicated otherwise, the scholarships have flexible deadlines and, in some cases, are awarded throughout the College’s academic year.

To apply for these scholarships, please see and follow the specific guidelines for each scholarship. Thank you.

Please select a scholarship from the drop down menu below:

LFCC Educational Foundation Inc. Emergency Scholarship Fund

This Emergency Scholarship was funded by the Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation to allow students to apply for monies to be used immediately and in the event of an emergency. The funds also may be used for books, professional development certificates and other school-imposed fees. Any LFCC student – part-time or full-time – may apply, excluding dual-enrolled students.

The funds can be used for tuition and fees only after students have demonstrated that they have applied for other Foundation scholarships (listed on the LFCC Web site at http://www.lfcc.edu/scholarships/) and only after they have sought other financial aid assistance from the LFCC Financial Aid Office. (Please allow at least five business days for the Financial Aid Office to review your files. Please allow at least three weeks if you are advised by the Financial Aid Office to apply for government financial aid). If students were not enrolled at the College by the March scholarship application deadline, they must provide documentation demonstrating that. Also, students cannot receive other Foundation scholarships and Emergency Scholarship funds in the same academic year.

Students may apply for funds up to $1,000 between January 1 and December 31 each year. Funds will not be issued to students. Instead, the funds will be issued directly to the vendor. Examples of vendors include the College and a utility company.

LFCC Students in Sports Scholarship

LFCC Students in Sports Scholarship

In 2005, LFCC established its inaugural men's and women's soccer teams, the Cannons.  The groups were organized as "club" teams, which are student organizations formed to compete in specific sports. "Intercollegiate athletic competition will certainly add to the richness and vibrancy of the LFCC experience," said LFCC President John J. "Ski" Sygielski. "These sports teams will provide opportunities for LFCC students to grow, collaborate and learn outside of the classroom with fellow LFCC students and their counterparts at other colleges and universities. And, they allow members of our local communities to become uniquely involved with LFCC."

This scholarship was established in 2006 with proceeds received from the sale of 21 baseballs autographed by baseball great Cal Ripken Jr.  Ripken was the featured speaker at an LFCC event in 2005 and gave the baseballs to the College at that time.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to one full- or part-time LFCC student who is a member of the College's men's soccer team and one full- or part-time LFCC student who is a member of the College's women's soccer team.

The scholarship award, not to exceed $500 per person, may be applied toward tuition, books and/or fees and will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. Satisfactory academic progress (minimum grade point average of 3.5) must be maintained in order for the recipients to receive the award for the spring semester.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Must complete a scholarship application
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must either be a current member of the College's men's or women's soccer team (August through end of season) in good standing or planning to play in the next soccer season; a student planning to play in the next soccer season must include with the application a written confirmation from the appropriate (men's or women's) LFCC soccer coach that the student has made a commitment to try out for the next team. (Please note: Only those who qualify for the scholarship and actually make the team will receive the scholarship.)
  • Must exemplify the ideals that Ripken demonstrated, including responsibility, persistence, work ethic and team work
  • Must submit a signed letter of recommendation (from an LFCC employee) that addresses the student's level of responsibility, persistence, work ethic and team work
