Lord Fairfax Community College prides itself on being able to provide a high-quality education to students at an economical cost. Although tuition for a full-time student is approximately $1,100 per semester, this is still costly for some.
Nearly three-fourths of LFCC students are non-traditional students who also work full- or part-time jobs. Many are single parents and displaced homemakers who require training. Many are returning to college after several years or are first-generation college students. The College’s scholarship program was created in order to reduce the financial burden of rising tuition rates for these individuals. In order to continue offering programs and quality instruction to those facing economic challenges, it is imperative that LFCC continues to receive funds for scholarships.
Many deserving individuals want to be contributing members of our community and the local economy but cannot afford the education they need to do so. With the help of a strong scholarship program, these individuals can reach their goal of earning a college degree.
While our scholarship donors are generous with their support, there is still a great need for scholarships. For example:
| Academic Year | Number of Scholarship Applicants | Number of Scholarship Recipients | Number of Students Who Did Not Receive Scholarships | Total Amount of Scholarships Awarded |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2007-08 | 539 | 205 | 334 | $235,776.98 |
| 2006-07 | 237 | 141 | 96 | $124,791.75 |
| 2005-06 | 373 | 108 | 265 | $116,900 |
Please note: The amount awarded is the amount that was made available to the students when they received their scholarship award letters. The amount disbursed is the amount of funds that the students actually used. For example, a student may have been awarded $1,000, but only $900 may have been disbursed if the student’s tuition, books and fees totaled only $900.
