Budget Cuts
As you may have recently heard in the news, all state agencies are required to submit a 5-percent budget reduction plan to the Office of the Governor for fiscal year 2007-08. To learn more about the economic trends that led to this requirement, please read Gov. Timothy M. Kaine’s remarks to the Senate Finance, House Finance and House Appropriations Committees: http://www.governor.virginia.gov/MediaRelations/NewsReleases/viewRelease.cfm?id=481.
As alumni, you may be wondering how this will impact your alma mater—Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC). Rest assured that LFCC is committed to preserving the resources necessary to accomplish its core mission of educating the community. Although any budget reduction has a significant impact on our College operations, LFCC is planning to accommodate this reduction by evaluating all expenditures and eliminating those expenditures that are not absolutely critical to current operations and eliminating, deferring and/or modifying some currently vacant administrative and staff positions. Currently filled positions are not included in the budget cut recommendations.
As we face this financial challenge, it is important to note that progress on the Science and Health Professions Building and the Corron Community Development Center will continue due to already committed state and private funds.
We believe that the year ahead is promising for LFCC. Although we will be called upon to do more with less as an institution, we are confident that we will weather this challenge and emerge a stronger and healthier institution.
Thank you for your support of LFCC!
