Office of Instructional Technology
The Office of Instructional Technology is responsible for the design, production, delivery, and assessment of courses using effective distance education processes and technologies. OIT staff members work with departments and faculty members to develop effective instructional processes and materials for electronic distribution of credit courses programs to students through various delivery methods.
Distance learning courses and programs are available through videoconferencing, CD-ROM/DVD, and the Internet (via synchronous and asynchronous applications).
Interactive video based courses (two-way video and audio) may be received at both LFCC campuses (Middletown and Fauquier), the Luray Page County Center and selected High Schools throughout the region. Students interact with instructors via two-way video and audio conferencing technologies.
The courses taught through the use of CD-ROM/DVD and the Internet offer the most flexibility for students who travel or work different shifts. Students participating in these classes interact with teachers and other students through telephone, email and various course management system tools, including electronic discussion boards and chat rooms.
Distance Education, Is it for me?
Although there are a number of benefits to distance learning, the success of students depends highly on good time management, self-discipline and self-motivation.
In order to help you be a more successful distance learning student, we strongly recommend you examine your learning preferences before registering for a distance learning course.
There are a number of assessment tools available to help you assess your readiness for the distance learning environment. Please visit the Student Readiness Tool (courtesy of the University System of Georgia) and take the online assessments.
