Passport to Paradise Concert (Fauquier Campus)

Tyrone Wells is a singer/songwriter with roots grounded in soul and rock. In 2006, Wells signed a recording contract with Universal Records. His classic and powerful voice has helped him sell thousands of records at live performances throughout the West Coast in venues such as the House of Blues, Galaxy Theatre and the El Rey Theatre. His performance on the main stage at the 2006 National Association of Campus Activities convention generated 152 offers from colleges across the country, a record number for the convention. In 2004, Wells was named the Orange County Music Awards Best Male Artist, as well as the 2004 University of California, Los Angeles Spring Sing Best Overall and Best Solo Artist. Wells’ music has also been featured on such television shows as “One Tree Hill,” “Numb3rs,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Summerland,” “Rescue Me,” “North Shore,” “The Mountain” and “The Bedford Diaries.”

Admissions

Summer and Fall Registration begins April 7, 2008

Early registration for summer and fall classes begins April 7, 2008. Summer class schedules, with registration dates, are available at http://www.lfcc.edu. Fall classes can be viewed through your MY LFCC account, with schedules available at http://www.lfcc.edu around May 30, 2008. Be sure to register as early as possible for both semesters to get the classes you want. If you have questions regarding registration and/or the classes to take, contact your academic advisor now.

The payment deadline for early summer registration is by 4 p.m. May 7, 2008. Summer registration resumes May 12 to May 26. During this period, payment is due at the time of registration. See the class schedule for more information. The payment deadline for early fall registration is 4 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008.

New LFCC students are required to attend a New Student Orientation (NSO) prior to registration. Additional information about NSOs can be found by clicking on the “Register now for New Student Orientation” link from LFCC’s homepage at http://www.lfcc.edu. New students who have questions about your next steps in getting started should call us at 540-868-7116 (Middletown Campus) or 540-351-1507 (Fauquier Campus).

Scholarship Opportunities and Financial Aid

Lord Fairfax Community College Scholarship Opportunities

Four New Scholarships Available!

There are four new scholarships available at LFCC! AES Engineers is interested in offering a $500 scholarship to a deserving student, please go to www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm for more details. Alpha Delta Kappa is also offering a $500 scholarship to a deserving student; the student must be an education major and reside in Shenandoah County. VAFCE is offering the Mrs. Guy Roop Scholarship for a minimum of $1000 for a mature adult improving their education. The Virginia Credit Union is offering 25 scholarships up to $2,500 for tuition and fees, must be a member of the Virginia Credit Union to qualify. Applications for these scholarships can be found in the financial aid office at LFCC. If you have any questions, contact the financial aid office at 540-868-7130.

The Winchester Branch of the American Association of University Women

This scholarship is for women 25 or older, who are students at LFCC, and who have completed at least 15 credits with a 3.0 GPA. Deadline is April 17, 2008.

Winchester Business and Professional Women Scholarship

Must be a resident of Winchester or Frederick County and be a graduating senior, a candidate for a higher education degree, be returning to an educational institution to prepare for a new career, or in a program to upgrade proficiency in a present career. Deadline is April 1, 2008.

4-H Dairy Club Endowed Scholarship Application

This scholarship is for current Shenandoah County high school and college or vocational school students who are now, or have been, members of 4-H or FFA. Preference will be given to applicants with Dairy experience.

Applications may be picked up at the LFCC financial aid department.

Cover Artwork Contest

Spring 2009 Issue of Inquiry Journal

Open to All
Virginia Community College System Students

Submit by May 15, 2008

Inquiry invites community college students to submit their best artwork for possible publication on the front cover of the journal. Works may be photographs, drawings, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and digital images.

Prize:  $250 and copies of the journal

Guidelines:

  • Artwork must be original, previously unpublished, and created by a student enrolled in a Virginia community college.
  • A student may submit up to three images for consideration.
  • Photographs, drawings, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, print making, and digital images are welcome.
  • Images should be submitted in digital form by e-mail attachment.

The winning artwork will be selected by the journal’s editors, and the winning artist will be notified in July 2008.

Submissions of artwork should be sent as e-mail attachments to:

Surgical Technology Program

The following are needed to be enrolled in the Surgical Technology Program. Deadline for application is May 1, 2008.

  1. Enroll at Lord Fairfax Community College
  2. Enroll at Piedmont Virginia Community College
  3. Fill out Surgical Technology application on the PVCC Web site
  4. Have official copies of all transcripts, high school and college, sent to PVCC Surgical Technology Program; please verify that PVCC has received these.
  5. Complete all placement test components at LFCC.
  6. Complete all prerequisites.
  7. Make appointment with Roxann Ricke or Claudia Mazurkiewicz to review any questions.
  8. Deadline for application is May 1, 2008
